Days 1-3 Leeds

It has been a truly indulgent couple of days. We played an awesome all-day festival with Tangled Hair, Suffer Like G Did and Axes (to name but a few), ate our weight in smoked beef brisket, and played a way to much Trails HD (courtesy of the Musical Mathematics boys, who hosted us for the first two nights). We then spent an evening with the chaps from Destroy All Records, where we recorded two live tracks, and generally just relaxed and had an awesome musical exchange.

Highlights included:

Two guys at the Brudenel Club who air guitar/bass/drummed to every part of every song PERFECTLY. They never missed a hit.

An impromptu beard shaving of Alan of Tangled Hair by Tobias Hayes. All further shows should end with a shaving.

Cracking jokes with people about the fact that a guy at the Brudenel club looked exactly like Macauley Culkin, not realising that it was actually him. I definitely would have thrown out a few Home Alone lines had I known, but judging by his subsequent appearance in Brighton, I realise that might not have been such a good idea.

Watching Trood play drums.

All in all, a good couple of days. Tonight we play Middlesborough. More on that story later.

Calm before the storm.

If we were a somewhat more pretentious and less literary group, the above would probably have been the title of our EP. Fortunately we aren’t and it wasn’t, so all will remain well.

What the title refers to, is our temporary withdrawal from live performance to write some new music, extend our live set and tighten up in advance of our tour in April. I’m also being kept busy finishing off the liner notes, which you can read if you buy our mega-bundle (do it), and coming up with ideas for our next video.

It is in exactly a month today that we will be loading up the van and setting off up the country to Leeds for the Dirty Otter Festival, and there is still a lot of work to be done, and a lot of plans to be made. It’s going to be hectic, but a lot of fun, and we cannot wait to make all your acquaintances.

Until then, keep getting those pre-orders in, because when the EP is released into the world, you won’t want to be without it. If you’re desperately looking for something to do until then, here are two recommendations:

Read this:

And watch every film Stanley Kubrick and Wes Anderson have ever done. Then start blogs and write about them.

Until then; much love.

First London show in a while…

Hello everyone. Come see us play really difficult things very quickly. There will be refreshments at the bar, and many interesting people to mingle with. You might even get to have a look at what pedals we use. The night is what you make of it. Much love, and we’ll see you there.

Meteoric Monday.

Well, Monday was a bit of an event, wasn’t it?

Firstly, we revealed the artwork, tracklisting and began taking pre-orders for our debut EP ‘Horizons / Rapture’, which looks like this:

And reads like this:

Horizons / Rapture

1. ObeliskMonolith

2. Abraxical Solapse

3. Hollow Mountain

4. Teratology

5. The Spectral Beyond

6. Titan

It will be available in a couple of different bundle deals; the best one includes sheet music for all the tracks and liner notes that delve into the meanings behind the pieces. Get them here:

http://bloodandbiscuits.bigcartel.com/artist/the-physics-house-band

Secondly, we released the video for Abraxical Solapse which I lovingly directed and produced over the last two weeks. It looks likes this:

There will be some extra special bonus footage coming along shortly, so stay tuned, and check our Facebook page regularly.

So. What a day eh? I’ll leave you now to go give our video some views, and spend your money on our music.

Until next time, much love, and goodnight.

TOUR - LABEL - HOORAY - SPRING BREAK

I haven’t posted in here for a while. And why? Because we’re busy getting ready for our Wembley show supporting Joe McElderry, and I’ve had to practice my diminished arpeggios at 568bpm, whilst holding my bass behind my head and taming a fully grown bear. Or I’ve just been a bit lazy/overwhelmed with everything that’s happened in the last couple of months. There will be a large 2012 roundup coming, but I’m still deciding how to properly format it, and whether to just perform the whole thing as a jovial monologue with a midi reggae accompaniment. Until then, here are two excellent things that have happened to us of late:

We have signed to booking agents Little Big Agency, alongside Battles, Aphex Twin, Three Trapped Tigers, Tall Ships, Bibio, Gonjasufi, 65daysofstatic, Mum, and a bunch of others. They will handling our booking worldwide, excluding North America, and have already clinched us a load of excellent shows.

Just today, we announced that we have signed to, and will be putting our record out with Blood And Biscuits, part of the Pink Mist collective (Big Scary Monsters, Tangled Talk, Holy Roar), and home the aforementioned Three Trapped Tigers, Tall Ships, Sleep Party People, and our esteemed colleagues Portasound. The above two announcements have culminated in a UK tour, coming to these places:

Make sure you all come along and buy plenty of merch, so that we can afford to stage that math ballet we’ve always been talking about. There will be another post next Monday, when we make our big EP announcement, so until then, hold tight, thank you to all of our longstanding fans, and a warmly vigorous shake of the hand to our new fans, wherever you may be. Our next shows will be 14th February at Kingston’s New Slang with Three Trapped Tigers, and then Source New Music at the Pavilion Theatre in Brighton, accompanied by an awesome liquid light show courtesy of Innerstrings Psychedelic Light Show

You can download our first single Titan for free here:

Go get it, and then watch all of Mad Men, because that’s what I’ve been doing.

Time well spent.

Adam

(By the way, if you want to call your band ‘Math Ballet’, that’s cool, just give me credit.)

We are on the cover of this month’s Brighton Source magazine. Thanks to James Kendall for the very complimentary review, Kenny McCracken for the photographs and Chris Tomsett for the excellent lighting.

Cats and dogs.

Dear all.

I’m sitting in a Starbucks in the centre of town, watching people outside getting absolutely annihilated by the rain. Right now I’m flying high, safe in the warm embrace of massive whipped-cream topped hot chocolate I embarrassedly collected from the desk a few minutes ago. These elated feelings will soon be dashed though, as when my time comes to brave the outside world, I’ll be taking a public shower, because I did not bring out a waterproof coat. Sweet.

Anyway, that’s then and this is now, and it’s time to inform you all about what we have been doing for the past month. It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, so I’m sorry for the delay. I do have some decent news for you, so prepare to be gently fanned from your seat.

Firstly, we have been in to the studio recording a bunch of material for our forthcoming EP. Two intensely sweaty days were spent playing around with about 100+ years of musical equipment heritage (yes, we used a harmonium), allowing us to complete all the overdubs on the tracks we recorded last December, record the brutal wig-out that is Abraxical Solapse, and write two new pieces of music that will help tie the record together. All we have to do now is re-amp a couple of parts, mix the tracks, segue everything together, and get it all mastered. Nice and loud like. Also, did I mention that we’re putting it out on 12” Vinyl? Oh yes. A few photographs of the occasion, taken by the excellent Ondra Loup can by found by clicking the below image:

Secondly, we’ve got some excellent shows coming up: We are playing at Underground Festival in Gloucester, The Lewes Psychedelic Festival (An all-night Leary-esc soirée), SWN Festival in Cardiff with the righteous dudes from Pink Mist, and two shows with the excellent Zechs Marquise. It’s going to be an awesome month.

Thirdly, Sam and I have set up a monthly clubnight in Brighton by the name of Kaleidoscope. Every second Saturday, we will be upstairs at Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, djing a heady mix of prog, fusion, hip-hop, modern electronica, IDM, funk, soul, latin jazz and pretty much everything else we can possibly get away with playing in a room full of people. Our first event went absolutely swimmingly, and we’re looking forward to bringing a couple of guests along for the next one. I’m currently finishing off the poster, which essentially based on the idea of a psychedelic train ride through Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. We’ll keep you posted.

Fourthly, something really exciting we’re involved with is being put out tomorrow. We can’t talk about it yet, for a number of reasons, but check the our FaceBook page, our twitter, on here, and all the joyous street celebrations tomorrow. You’ll see.

Right. My laptop is close to death, and I’ve realised that I have not brought my charger: Even thought pretty much everyone in here is using a Macbook, I don’t think I’m ready to go asking around to use their power supplies. I’ll be posting here more regularly once we get the internet in the ‘Physics House (we’ve moved in together, and we have a fireplace. Sweet). Until then. Good day. Enjoy the rain.

Adam.

(Update.. check the above post for the exciting news that I couldn’t tell you about).

Thanks Brighton. Hi London. Oh hey studio.

Hello there everyone.

Firstly, thank you to all the absolute badasses who came to our Brighton show on Monday: It was a reasonably last minute show, it was an early show, and it was raining, but you all still came and we love you for it. I would have walked around personally embracing you one by one, but I was more ill then an early 90s Will Smith outfit, so it wouldn’t have been good for you. Next Brighton show is tbc, so check back for more info soon.

We are playing at The Old Blue Last tomorrow for the Friday Night Fist Fight , so all you London people get down there, and bring your enthusiasm hats. We’ll be debuting a bit of new material, and just generally having a raucous time for your pleasures.

On Saturday and Sunday, we’ll be heading to the studio to continue work on our record, though most of the time will be spent making outrageous noises with synthesizers and drinking tea. We’ll be posting photos and short clips to our Twitter throughout, so make sure you keep up with our feed.

Until such time as we see you again, stay safe, eat well, and get regular exercise.

Adam.

Feshtival.

Hi everyone.

We are playing the totally radical Underground Festival at Gloucester Guildhall on Sunday 30th September.

Directions are here:

There are a heapload of other great bands, playing over the Saturday and Sunday, so all you GL people, and those of you nearby, get yourselves down there. It’s free entry, but it’ll be first come first served. Can you dig it?

Much love.x

Next Brighton Show

Afternoon;

We are playing the above show at the above time in the above venue. It’s our first show for a while, so it should be a great one.

We also have a London show coming up on the 17th at The Old Blue Last, so all of you London people make sure you’re there.

In the meantime, eat your greens.

x

Holiday.

Hello physicists.

Things have been a bit quiet our end for the last couple of weeks, mainly because Dave went to Spain to play at a wedding, and Sam and I went to Soundwave festival in Croatia to wage war on our livers. It’s been productive.

Now that we’re back, tanned, and slowly readjusting to regular life, we’re going to continue working on some new material, and spend a bit more time tracking and mixing for our EP (no release date set as of yet, for various reasons, but mostly because we keep wanting to make it bigger, more exciting and more complicated).

Our next scheduled show is on the 28th of October with the excellent Zechs Marquise, but we will be booking a couple before then, so stay on the lookout. We’re very excited about playing some of the new music we’ve been writing, whether completed, or still in WIP stages.

We’re also going to pay a bit more attention to this blog, so set it as your homepage. Yeah? Excellent.

Until then, Sam and I will be doing a couple of DJ sets at Sticky Mike’s, and perhaps even some celebrity appearances at Sainsburys.

You stay classy San Diego.

x
